Consumer inflation in Japan slowed in July, aligning with the Bank of Japan‘s view that price growth has peaked, potentially providing support for its stance of maintaining accommodative policies.
Data revealed that the core Consumer Price Index (CPI), which excludes fresh food, rose 3.1% compared to the same period last year, a decrease from the previous month’s 3.3%. This figure was in line with analysts’ expectations.
The nationwide results mirrored the data from Tokyo, where earlier indicators showed a mild easing of inflation as energy prices declined.
