The US Department of Transportation has officially approved the addition of 6 extra flights by Chinese airlines, which will begin operating from September 1.
These include Air China’s weekly flights from Beijing to Los Angeles and New York, as well as China Eastern’s two weekly flights from Shanghai to Los Angeles, and China Southern’s two weekly flights from Guangzhou to Los Angeles.
With this, Chinese airlines will be able to operate up to 18 China-US direct flights per week starting from September 1, with the highest number of flights heading to Los Angeles. This increase in capacity is expected to contribute to potential reductions in airfares.
For flights from Shanghai to Los Angeles in September, the lowest price is around 8,500 yuan (about $1,320), which is approximately 25% lower than two weeks ago.
The flight prices from Shanghai to San Francisco have also decreased by about 20% compared to two weeks ago, although they remain similar to the rates booked in May.
