A penny is a unit of British currency. Each coin may have a different face value.
Similar to the Chinese “fen”.
Before 1970 the old system was used, 1=240 pence (1 shilling =12 pence, 1 pound =20 shillings).
Since 1971, 1 pound =100 New Pence.
There are 1 pence, 2 pence, 5 pence, 10 pence, 20 pence, one franc (25 pence, removed from circulation in 1990), 50 pence, 1 pound, 2 pound, 5 pound (after 1990 called krone).
Pence was a small piece of silver coin in the Middle Ages, and its name is as familiar as Dinar and Denier.
